Transfer of Remains
Also called removal, first call, or transfer into care.
Transfer of remains means bringing the person from the place of death into the provider's care. The price usually covers a death within the provider’s service area. Where the death happens can change what you pay, because a death outside that area is often charged by the mile.

Transfer on Salt Lake County lists, within a set area
Cremation Society of Utah, Neptune Society, and Inspired Funeral Home include it in their price within their service areas. Neil O’Donnell Funeral Home includes it in its Simple Cremation and otherwise charges $495 within 35 miles (effective September 1, 2026).

- 1A mileage radiusMost lists use a 50-mile radius.Larkin charges $600 within 50 miles and $3.50 per mile after that (effective April 1, 2025).
- 2A list of countiesSome lists name the counties they cover.Cannon Mortuary charges $400 within Salt Lake, Davis, Utah and Summit counties, and $2.50 per mile outside them (effective February 1, 2026).

- 4Extra staffSome lists add a charge when a second person is needed.Memorial Mortuaries adds $125 for each extra person (effective July 5, 2026).
