How to read these prices: each figure is the provider’s own price, from its price list, website or a phone call, checked in August or September 2026. It’s not a quote, so confirm before you decide. Traditional burial is the funeral home’s charges; the casket, vault and cemetery are extra unless the row says otherwise. The $157 state cremation permit is extra unless the row says it’s included. How we find and check prices

Comparing prices — read this first

It’s not an apples-to-apples comparison, and here’s exactly why

The vault-setting fee
Some homes cut the vault price and recover it through a separately-listed setting fee. Comparing vault line items alone can point you to the wrong conclusion.
The casket, not just the price
“One’s a Kia, one’s a BMW.” Casket prices aren’t comparable across providers without knowing the maker and line.
The cremation container
It’s legally required and it costs money — but quoted prices often leave it out. A $1,000 quote and a $1,300 quote may be identical.
Other things that can raise or lower the price: transportation, the funeral home’s staff and services, paperwork and death certificates, identification and viewing, the urn, the ceremony itself, and after-hours fees. Ask about each one when you compare providers.

Cannon, Larkin Sunset Gardens, Memorial Lake Hills, Premier, or Salt Lake Valley Mortuary — what actually differs

The practical differences come down to what’s included, not just the sticker price.

Provider(s)What actually differs
Cannon Mortuary & Memorial Lake Hills Both build package pricing around an in-house casket purchase, which raises the itemized total for a family sourcing a casket elsewhere — see the note in each row above.
Larkin Sunset Gardens Same chain-wide package structure and casket-purchase condition as Larkin’s Salt Lake City and Riverton locations.
Premier Funeral Services Posts its price list online (effective July 15, 2025), but not its package, casket or vault prices. Those figures here come from the list Premier emailed us; ask for the current one.
Salt Lake Valley Mortuary & Cremation Center Genuinely based in Sandy, but its price list is shared chain-wide with three sibling locations outside the launch towns.

None of these is the “better” choice — the right fit depends on what your family needs. The Wayfinder Plan above can help narrow that down faster than reading everything on this page.

Sandy specifics

A garden spade standing upright in a mound of sandy soil
Sandy’s soil shapes what a cemetery here can offer
Sandy City Cemetery’s ground can’t support double-depth burials — it’s too sandy and collapses at depth. Larkin Sunset Gardens, on rockier ground, can. Sandy City publishes its cemetery fees (as of July 1, 2026): an adult plot is $1,420 for residents ($2,040 non-resident), including perpetual care; a grave opening and closing (interment) is $968 ($1,632); burying cremated remains is $478 ($813); and a niche is $1,175 ($1,463) plus $358 ($654) to place the urn. Saturdays, holidays and weekday graveside services after 2 p.m. add $478. See Sandy City’s Plot & Burial Fees page. A flourishing tree with lush green grass beneath it
Why Larkin Sunset Gardens is visibly greener
City cemeteries are funded by property tax, so maintenance can vary with the budget. Larkin Sunset Gardens sold water back to Sandy City in exchange for perpetual water rights on the property — which is why it stays noticeably greener than some neighboring cemeteries. A softly lit candle beside a folded memorial program
The LDS Church’s stance on cremation has shifted
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints leaves the choice of burial or cremation to the family, and its official handbook affirms that the Resurrection applies to every member regardless of how the body was treated after death. In practice, a full viewing and funeral service followed by cremation is a common, faith-consistent path here — not a contradiction. Read the Church’s official policy.

If a death happens away from home
Bringing someone home from another state usually means a charge from the funeral home where the death happened, plus $995 to $3,999 for a Salt Lake County funeral home to receive them. A death abroad can cost $10,000 or more. Some prepaid plans include away-from-home transport; ask whether yours does.

Sandy questions

Common questions, answered plainly

How much does cremation cost in Sandy?
It depends entirely on the provider and what’s included. Among the Sandy providers we’ve called directly, basic direct cremation ranges from about $650 to $3,790, and packages that include a service run higher. See the full comparison table above for real, individual figures.
Why does Memorial Lake Hills list a “Package Value” and a “Your Savings” amount instead of one price?
Package Value is the real bottom-line price only if you buy the casket or cremation container through Memorial. If you choose one elsewhere, the separately-listed Your Savings amount is added back on top of the Package Value — so the two figures together tell you the itemized total. Confirmed directly with Memorial’s Sandy location director.
Does Sandy publish its own cemetery pricing?
Yes. Sandy City posts its cemetery fees on its Plot & Burial Fees page, with separate resident and non-resident rates, as Murray and Riverton do. As of July 1, 2026, an adult plot is $1,420 for Sandy residents ($2,040 non-resident) and a grave opening and closing is $968 ($1,632). Saturday and holiday burials add $478. The city says fees are subject to change, so confirm the current amount with the cemetery office before you buy.
