In the Latter-day Saint tradition, the viewing is often held at the meetinghouse right before the funeral. The casket doesn’t have to be open for it to be called a viewing.

Serenity Funeral Home calls it a Family Moment Viewing ($2,495 with direct cremation, effective August 1, 2026). Neptune Society calls it Loving Tribute, a $3,440 package (price list effective July 22, 2026).
- 2A public viewing or visitationA set block of time open to friends and the community.Family Funeral Care lists visitation as a $125 add-on (effective September 17, 2026). McDougal Funeral Home charges $660 for up to four hours (effective April 1, 2026).
- 3With or without embalmingSome homes require embalming for any viewing. Others allow a short private one without it.
