Full-Service Funeral Home
Also written “full-service provider” or “full-service mortuary.”
A full-service funeral home offers every part of a funeral itself, including care of the body, embalming, viewings, and services, as opposed to a provider that offers only cremation.
The phrase isn’t regulated, and Utah providers use it in at least four different ways. Before comparing two “full-service” options, check which meaning each one uses.
Varies by provider
Four things “full-service” can mean
- 1It offers services, not only cremationThe most common meaning. The home has a chapel, holds viewings and funerals, and handles burial or cremation. It’s used to set it apart from cremation-focused providers. For the same basic direct cremation, Cremation Society of Utah quotes $1,195 (Aug. 2026), and Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park’s price list starts at $3,095 (effective February 26, 2026).
- 2One company owns the funeral home and the cemeterySome Salt Lake County companies own funeral homes and cemeteries together. Larkin, for example, runs mortuaries, Larkin Sunset Gardens and Larkin Sunset Lawn cemeteries, and its own monument and vault company. That can make planning simpler. Families still sometimes need separate arrangements for the plot, opening and closing the grave, or insurance.
- 3It’s the name of a package“Traditional full-service burial” on a price list usually means a viewing, a funeral, and a graveside service. It rarely includes the cemetery’s charges, and the casket and vault may be extra.Cannon Mortuary’s weekday traditional funeral is $4,495 as a package, and the casket must be bought from Cannon for that price (price list effective February 1, 2026). Cemetery charges are billed by the cemetery.
- 4A full service with an urnSome cremation providers describe a gathering with the urn present, led by a funeral director, as a full service. It is a real service, but without a viewing or casket.Neptune Society sells a Celebration of Life service as a $1,495 add-on to its $2,815 cremation plan (phone quote, September 4, 2026).
Ask“When you say full-service, does that include the casket, the vault, and the cemetery’s charges?”
In Utah
Most funeral homes in Salt Lake County are full-service in the first sense. Cremation-focused providers are fewer, and at least one sells direct cremation through an online checkout. Neither kind is better. They answer different needs, and a full-service home can still arrange a simple cremation.
Our city pages list every funeral home serving each town, full-service and cremation-focused alike, with dated prices from their own price lists.
