Direct burial is burial soon after death with no viewing or ceremony, and usually no embalming.
In Utah
The price depends on who supplies the casket. Premier Funeral Services lists immediate burial at $1,195 to $2,390 (effective July 15, 2025). Family Funeral Care starts at $1,850 with your own container (effective September 17, 2026). Larkin lists $3,795 with a casket you supply and $5,190 with a Larkin casket (effective April 1, 2025).
Cemetery charges, including the plot, opening and closing, and usually a vault, are extra.
Why families choose it
It costs less than a traditional funeral and keeps burial, which matters to many families. A memorial service or graveside gathering can still happen later.
